Mike Getty

Sunset Custodian Named 2016 Earth Hero for Waste Reduction and Recycling

Posted by User Not Found on 13 May, 2016

Congratulations to Michael Getty, lead custodian at Sunset Elementary School for being named one of the 2016 King County Earth Heroes for Waste Reduction and Recycling. Mike has been an active supporter of the Sunset Green Team efforts since its inception and is always looking for ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Earlier this year, Sunset Elementary School replaced their risers and rather than send the old ones to the landfill, Michael located a scrap metal recycler who picked the risers up for free. Throughout the year, Mike also assists the school’s Waste Watchers team and helps them direct student lunchroom waste to the appropriate recycling and composting bins.

As part of the King County Earth Heroes program, school Green Teams, Waste Watchers, and staff are inspiring to others to create their own projects that conserve resources, protect the environment, and educate about simple, everyday actions that can contribute to a healthier planet.
