Skyline Students Sweep the 2016 WA Chinese Competition

Congratulations to the Skyline High School Chinese Club students who recently won all of the language categories at the 2016 Washington State Chinese Language and Talent Competition. At this year’s annual Chinese culture competition, 424 students from 120 area schools participated in sharing their knowledge of Chinese culture and activities through art competitions including: group poetry readings, personal poetry readings, lectures, storytelling, a talent contest, a singing contest, a drawing contest, Chinese chess, general knowledge Chinese quizzes, and an oral talent contest. 

The following Skyline students were awarded for their efforts at the competition. Byron Jin, 1st place in Chinese Language Arts; Jaron Jin, Dana McCaw, and Tasha Mok 2nd place in Chinese Language Arts; Cindy Kohlleppel, 1st place in Public Speaking (class A); Victoria Pao, 2nd place in Public Speaking (class A); Dana McCaw, 1st place in Public Speaking (class B); Tasha Mok 3rd place in Public Speaking (class C); Annie Xia, Jaron Jin, Dana McCaw, and Tasha Mok, 2nd place in Group Poetry Recitation; Benjamin Yu, Shide Zhang, Aaron Wang, and Kaichen Liu, 3rd place in Chinese Knowledge Bowl; and Annie Tang, 1st place in Chinese painting.

This annual competition was co-sponsored by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and Dr. Gil Mendoza, Deputy Superintendent attended the awards ceremony. Skyline Junior, Cindy Kohlleppel, led the awards ceremony and received high praise for her excellent work.
