Elementary Learning Resources for Families

This page will be periodically updated with more information about Essential Learnings, resources for families to support learning at the elementary level.

Information on our LMS, Learning Management System, and digital tools is available at Clever, Seesaw and Teams for Elementary.

Fall 2020 Trimester 1

  • The fall 2020 trimester will begin on September 1 with fully remote learning. 
  • Students will receive a full day of instruction through a combination of live, synchronous (real-time) lessons and independent practice to be done asynchronously.  
  • Students will follow a consistent school day schedule five days per week, and it will include specialists. 
  • Instruction will focus on standards-based Essential Learnings in reading, writing, math, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Social Studies, PE, Music, and Library.  Science Essential Learnings will replace Social Studies during the second half of the school year.  
  • Teachers will use designated learning management systems including Clever, Seesaw and Microsoft Teams. 
  • Examples of instructional approaches may include: 
    • Live, interactive video lessons with the whole class.  These will be recorded and made available to students who are not able to attend.  
    • Live, interactive video lessons with small groups of students. 
    • Pre-recorded instruction 
    • Interactive software 
    • Interactive presentations with student response
  • Students and families will have regular, specified opportunities to connect with their teacher to support student learning. 
  • Teachers will take daily attendance, provide feedback on student work, and report grades based on Essential Learning standards. 
  • Special Education and English Language Learner (ELL) teachers will communicate their expectations to their students/families and collaborate with classroom teachers.

Digital tools

Every student in Issaquah School District has access to online digital tools. For our elementary students, they can access most of these tools through Clever. For more information about the tools, please refer to the list below. The use of these tools may be relative to teacher use and grade-level.

Clever is the online portal for elementary students to access Zearn (Math), Quaver (Music), and other educational technology tools.

Actively Learn Actively Learn is an e-reading platform that improves students' reading comprehension and retention by empowering teachers to reach students inside a text. Teachers can customize instruction, provide real-time feedback, allow peers to collaborate, and get analytics on student performance. Core 5
Lexia support learning of Reading Foundational Skills - the basic building blocks of reading.  Lexia is an adaptive learning tool, meaning that it adjusts to student needs based on their responses. It is important that student work on Lexia is independent, so families should help students navigate Lexia, but not help them with the work within Lexia.  Teachers can monitor student progress to inform their instruction in small group reading lessons.  To Learn More from Lexia click here.  K-5  Clever
iReady Math  iReady Math is being used to reinforce learning, provide math enrichment, and help build up students who have and core number sense skill gaps.  iReady is another adaptive learning tool, that adjusts to student responses. It will launch with a diagnostic assessment and then build a personalized learning plan for each student.  It is important that student do their iReady work INDEPENDENTLY, so families can help students navigate iReady, but should encourage them to do their best independent work for the iReady activities - even the games, which may have more than fun in mind.  To learn more from iReady, click here. (Note, ISD is only providing iReady Math, not reading)    
BrainPop Jr.
Brain Pop allows teachers to assign differentiated activities to students and monitor their progress. Activities include Make-a-Map, Make-a-Movie, Challenge, games, videos and more. It encourages independent learning. K-5 (teachers who have established classroom access through Clever) Clever

Office 365 and Teams

Office 365 is Microsoft's subscription-based service that gives users access to the familiar, desktop office applications through the web browser and access to its cloud storage solution.
