Adoption process and timeline

  • Secondary science curriculum parent input survey responses-Spring 2014.
    All comments are displayed that do not violate the district's civility policy and/or personally name individuals.
  • Teacher adoption committee: Formed May 2014

    • August 28, 2014: Finalize charter, review scope and sequence, review teacher survey feedback.
    • October 16, 2014: Review parent survey information, review adoption process, research goals and instructional practices.
    • November 3, 2014: Review materials for NGSS alignment.
    • November 20, 2014: Voted to postpone adoption.
    • Winter and Spring 2015 Updates:
      • January 26, 2015: In-house curriculum development.
      • March 23, 2015: Review of winter/spring in-house development field testing. Review of available materials to select for fall field testing.
    • September 16, 2015: Voting on submitted curriculums using PEEC alignment tool. 
    • Fall 2015: Field testing materials.
    • October 20, 2015: Meeting to prepare for field testing. (Stemscopes webinar)
    • February 29, 2016: Post-field testing discussion
    • March 31, 2016: Meeting to review additional materials
    • October 12, 2016: materials selection committee collaborated and discussed field testing and completed EQuIP rubrics for the first field tested materials.
    • December 13, 2016: Vote to select STC for fall 2017 implementation. 
  • IMC review and decision: Presented to IMC January 12, 2017.
  • IMC meeting dates: Meeting dates are reflected in the Upcoming Events section of the District website home page
  • Public Viewing: (contingent on IMC recommendation)— For two weeks in February (dates to be determined) parents and community members can review and provide written input on the recommended materials during normal business hours at the Administration Building.
  • Board review: Contingent on IMC recommendation, tentatively March 2017.


December 13, 2016
Teachers evaluated iQWST and Pearson with the EQuIP Rubric. The team ultimately selected STC for implementation of new materials in Fall 2017.

October 12, 2016
Materials selection team evaluated the first fall field testing publisher using the EQuIP rubric.

March 31, 2016
Curriculum adoption team met and previewed newly released curriculum materials. Notes were compiled and questions sent to vendors. 

February 29, 2016
Afternoon meeting was held to discuss the winter field testing of STC EWIT and STEMscopes. The team was split for each curriculum and no consensus was met. Additional materials for review were distributed. Mr. Burgard presented his work with the Water Fellows.

October 20, 2015
Teachers received field testing scheduled. STEMscopes presented a webinar to familiarize teachers with the product.

September 16, 2015
Teachers used the PEEC alignment tool to vote on all of the submitted curriculum material offerings. The PEEC alignment tool clarified expectations for how the NGCC and "Three Dimensional Learning" can be found in curricular materials.

November 20, 2014
Teachers revisited the discussions from earlier in the month and determined that there were no materials they wanted to field test this year. Teachers voted unanimously to postpone adoption until more materials are available. Teachers then began working on a performance-based task that incorporates properties of matter into the problem of de-icing roads.

November 3, 2014
Teachers studied the adopted curriculums around the region. Mr. Donaldson gave a presentation about incorporating sustainability into curriculum. Teachers began comparing lessons using the Equip Rubric. The group then mapped out the timing for each material/textbook available.

October 16, 2014:
The materials selection team read and summarized the responses for the parents survey. Teachers discussed the evaluative tools available for use with the NGSS. Teachers began reviewing materials and began the evaluation process.

August 28, 2014
The middle school physical science materials selection committee had their first meeting on August 28, 2014. During this time the group approved their charter for review by ed planning and reviewed teacher responses to the materials and curriculum survey.
