Adoption process and timeline

  • High School Chemistry curriculum parent input survey responses.
    All comments will be displayed that do not violate the district's civility policy and/or personally name individuals.
  • Teacher materials selection committee: forming February 2018
  • Teacher materials selection committee meeting dates
    Each meeting date includes its planned main agenda item(s), then links to the specific meeting summary when available
    • February 15, 2018: Charter, norms, review of standards and best practices (aligned with NGSS)
    • April 18, 2018: Work with the Science and Engineering Practices (SEPs) and Cross Cutting Concepts (CCCs). Deep dive into Earth & Space Science standards
    • May 30, 2018: Review materials
      • Committee members voted unanimously to defer field testing until 2019
    • December 7, 2019: committee members reviewed new and updated materials information. Select vendors to request presentations.
    • May 23, 2019: Vendor presentations from McGraw-Hill, Pearson, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and BFW Publishing. Select two curriculums to field test.
    • August 2019: Inspire Chemistry Field Test Training.
    • November 19, 2019: Check in for Inspire Chemistry field test.
    • February 3, 2020: Pearson Realize training for field testing.
    • March 9, 2020: Meeting to vote on curriculum materials.
  • IMC review and decision: March 12, 2020
  • IMC meeting dates: Meeting dates are reflected in the Upcoming Events section of the District website home page
  • TBD (contingent on IMC recommendation) - For two weeks in spring 2020 (dates to be determined) parents and community members can review and provide written input on the recommended materials during normal business hours at the Administration Building.

MEETING SUMMARIES

May 30, 2018: Teachers reviewed curriculums used by neighboring districts and reviewed materials provided by vendors.

February 15, 2018: Teachers met to determine consensus process, learn about the 2013 Washington State Science Standards, and determine overarching goals for the course.

April 18, 2018: Teachers met to continue their learning about the 3D nature of the Next Generation Science Standards. Teachers worked with progressions of practices and concepts.
