Motivational speaker and kindness advocate Houston Kraft recently made stops at all of the Issaquah School District middle schools to talk to students about promoting every day kindness. Kraft – who lived in Issaquah during his elementary years – has spoken to nearly half a million people nationwide, believing that real change comes from motivation, conversation, and positive messages.
Drawing from his own life experiences, Kraft sited events from elementary, middle, and high school, as well as beyond to discuss his up and down journey with learning how to live a kind life. The students were consistently engaged as Kraft walked them through his stories, speaking of past events, behaviors, and friendships (some good, others not so good). The message was strong and clear throughout the talk – Be Kind. Kraft empathized as being kind is not always easy, as sometimes it can lead to rejection which hurts, but it’s still important to be kind every moment that you can. It’s not always possible to ask for a second chance or forgiveness, so Kraft asked the students to live in such a way that they won’t need to.
Kraft received a standing ovation from the students and staff at Pine Lake, who returned to class from their assembly looking rejuvenated.
