High School DECA Chapters Advance to State during Area 4 Competition
2 February, 2017
In January, the Issaquah, Liberty and Skyline DECA chapters participated in their first competition of the year – the Area 4 competition. Below are some highlights from the event.
Issaquah High School:
The Issaquah High DECA Chapter brought 68 students to the Area 4 competition, which had over 1,300 competitors. The DECA organization recognizes Finalists (top performers in at least one element of the competition) and Qualifiers (those that did well enough to advance to the State Competition) at these events. Issaquah High had 41 Finalist (60% of their students that attended), and 33 Qualifiers (nearly half!).
Liberty High School:
Liberty DECA sent 160 dedicated and driven members to participate in the Area 4 DECA Competition. This competition resulted in the Liberty Chapter setting a personal record in State qualifiers – sending 68 members to state, accounting for 17% of the total Area 4 state qualifiers. Liberty DECA is proud to place 2nd overall at the Area conference and is aiming for the same success at the State competition in March.
Skyline High School:
Skyline qualified 121 students to State, smashing their record of 90 by 31 students, a 38% increase! Additionally, Skyline won 9 Area Championships, or 36% of all events, and also scored 8 seconds.
Congratulations to the Issaquah, Liberty, and Skyline DECA chapters on a great Area competition! Best of luck at State!
