Apollo Elementary Green Team Recognized by King County

Apollo Elementary Green Team Recognized by King County

Posted by Elizabeth Egan on 17 February, 2017
Apollo Elementary’s Green Team was recently featured in the Go, Green Team newsletter from King County for their efforts in creating a green school environment! The Green Team, which is overseen by teachers Andrea Wolfe and Hayley Mathis, has worked to reduce lunch waste at the school for several years. This year’s focus has been on zero-waste lunch, focusing specifically on the challenges of having a zero-waste lunch when there is packaging and uneaten food.

Each day at lunch, regular Green Team lunchroom helpers share waste reduction ideas, either individually or as announcements, on new things to try. The helpers also create hallway signs and place notes in student lunch boxes with tips on how to reduce their daily lunch waste. To check their progress the Green Team regularly weighs the school’s lunch waste, and has already seen great improvement this school year!
